Something New Saturday: Envision Your New Utopian Life

It’s Satur-YAY! The weekend is officially here. You have worked hard all week to be mindful of your days, so now let’s take some time to vision-cast your future. You have full permission to daydream-BIG in full and vivid color. Now you can focus on manifesting your dreams into a vibrant reality with SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely). We certainly can’t control or plan for everything. However, we can build a vision for the life we desire to live, and then take strategic steps each day toward achieving them.

During your times of mindfulness, consider what you desire in your life and what you hope to experience. Envision your future and what you want to see for your faith, family, field (profession), finances, fitness, and fun. Set goals that you want to achieve in your lifetime. Then, establish a plan for achieving them.

And don’t be afraid of a little adventure along the way either. Habakkuk 2:2 states, “And the LORD answered me: ‘Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.’” Commit your plans to God but do your part in bringing them to fruition. My motto is: It is my job to do my best, and God will do the rest.

Did You Know:

An article in Psychology Today highlights the importance of visualization for training the mind to achieve goals. The process of mentally visualizing a procedure, success, practice, etc. builds neural pathways that effectively train the brain for actual performance.

Vision boards are an excellent way to establish the practice of visualization. You can choose pictures and cut out important words from magazines that highlight the vision you have for various areas of life. Once your board is created, pray over each item regularly, and mentally visualize yourself achieving your goals, regardless of how large they are, or how impossible they may seem. Mark 9:23 states, “‘If you can?’ said Jesus. ‘Everything is possible for one who believes.’”

Dare to dream big and in color. Every success strategy and lesson discussed above offer levels to reach over time.

Create SMART goals for each area of your life. As a reminder, they should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely (i.e. I will take a cruise in 2 years and will save $100 each month to afford it).

List 5 ways to celebrate. (Idea Bank: When you reach each goal, celebrate by finding a new nail polish, get a $15 manicure, get a fresh cut, go to your favorite park, catch a movie, and keep achieving!)
