Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands. (Help Guide)

According to Harvard Business Review: "Some researchers have documented rates as high as 50% among medical residents and 85% among financial professionals. A 2013 ComPsych survey of more than 5,100 North American workers found that 62% felt high levels of stress, loss of control, and extreme fatigue."

What Can Be the Signs of Burnout?

  • Feeling tired and drained most of the time

  • Lowered immunity, frequent illnesses

  • Frequent headaches or muscle pain

  • Change in appetite or sleep habits

  • Feeling helpless, trapped, and defeated

  • Detachment, feeling alone

  • Loss of motivation

  • Withdrawing from responsibilities

  • Isolating yourself from others

  • Procrastinating, taking longer to get things done

Ways to Help you Prevent Burnout:

  1. Be active, go outside and go on walks as often as possible

  2. Strive for 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night with consistent bedtimes and wake up times

  3. Avoid electronic devices within one hour of bedtime

  4. Avoid caffeine intake after lunch

  5. Take time to enjoy the little things throughout your day

  6. Find some time to spend with your family and friends

  7. Connect and share your day with others

  8. Give yourself a break when needed

  9. Limit your exposure to news and social media

  10. Reflect on your wins and what you are grateful for
